Targeting Mental Health in Schools
Utilise the Draw and Write Illuminative Research approach to give voice to your pupils and evaluate your effectiveness.
Anna-Michele is currently engaged with Gateshead Local Authority to evaluate their TaMHS Massage in Schools Programme through the Draw and Write Technique.
After writing the material, Anna-Michele and her research team from York St John University carried out a preliminary questionnaire. Following this the massage instruction was then delivered across the 10 targeted schools, and we repeated the questionnaire after two terms of Massage in Schools practice.
The findings are currently being analysed, whereby we will be able to see how pupils knowledge, experience and feelings about the programme have changed.
We can also create teaching materials from these findings that enable us to help children rethink any 'not so healthy' perceptions, and reinforce any beliefs that are positive life choices.
In the near future, some of these research questionnaires will be available on this website as eBooks to download and purchase. Watch this space.....
Pioneered originally back in the late 1980's, the Late Noreen Wetton became renowned in the Health Education field for this unique and child-centred way of gathering children’s thoughts, feelings, perceptions and misconceptions on health-related subjects.
Ever heard of 'jugs and herrings?' The police still use this fascinating and often hilarious account of children’s awareness of drugs in schools across the country.
Anna-Michele has adopted Draw and Write and made it her own with numerous research questionnaires written for children and adolescents on Emotional Health and Wellbeing, including Bullying, Crime Prevention, Love and Fear, Self Awareness, Family, Eating and Feelings which children may need help with.
If you have a piece of work you need to plan, deliver and evaluate, Draw and Write may be the perfect solution.
