Anti-Bullying Week 2010
This year’s theme ‘Taking Action Together’ builds on the Bystander theme of 2007.
Individuals and groups of children who witness bullying can be incredibly powerful and effective in helping put a stop to the bullying behaviour. If some intervention is not made on their part, we recognise this as the behaviour of a Bystander’ who in effects condones the bullying by remaining silent, and at worse, encouraging it.
Schools and organisations can collude with bullying simply by not by being proactive and reactive around bullying behaviour.
We all have opportunity this coming national Anti Bullying Week to really focus on a whole school or setting approach- that is, joining with the wider local community to work together in preventing and managing bullying so that our schools, children and young people’s services and our streets are safe places for all.
Given the recent Government budget cuts, the ABA will not be publishing hard copies of the resource pack that we have all grown to love. However, it will all be downloadable on line from late September. Watch out for the ad in TES alerting you to this.
For those of you in the North East, we are planning a day in partnership with Helen Gordon Associates for Friday October 22nd, to help you prepare a really exciting week, and update policy and practice.
