Keep Your Cool...
This course will help you improve your understanding and handling of anger for all children, especially those 'trigger happy' or who need to move on and get mad!
This course supports Targeting Mental Health in Schools, ECM, SEAL, PSHE and the Healthy Schools Emotional Health and Wellbeing Agendas.

Participants will be given the opportunity to:
- Recognise the rage circuit and brain chemistry at play during angry outbursts
- Respond appropriately to lower arousal levels and diffuse potential flare-ups
- Identify the gradient, language and spectrum of anger
- Engage with the arts and play materials to explore and express anger
- Reflect on participants’ own experiences and learnings around anger
- Utilise the Draw and Write Technique to consult children about their perceptions, misconceptions and experiences of anger
- Decide when best to use cathartic exercises and when to calm
- Factor in considerations for group work on anger
- Facilitate relaxation & calming techniques

Participants will have a broad overview of the latest research in the neuroscience of the rage circuit and how best to respond to this. They will know how and why some children are quick to become angry and how best to respond to this to reduce anger arousal. They will also have a range of safe and creative exercises to support children who are prone to passive aggressive behaviours and need permission to own their anger, express it and move on.

Learning methods will include:
- Presentation of Draw and Write Research with pupils on anger; participants will learn how to create classroom materials from this technique.
- Many forms of learning are covered on the course including: case work and theory, whole group discussion, pair activities, facilitation practice, small group work, video, use of Children’s Literature, use of clay, art materials and miniatures from Jungian sandplay music plus movement activities.
- Some Massage In Schools and Relaxation Techniques will be introduced to calm and soothe.
